  Inpatient Care

The Division of Endocrinology maintains an inpatient consult service that responds to an average of 30 to 50 consults per month. The consultation team consists of a faculty member, an Endocrinology fellow, and students and residents rotating on the Endocrinology service.

The inpatient Endocrinology consultation team evaluates and follows admitted patients to UTMB hospitals that require Endocrine consultation. The spectrum of Endocrine disorders is very wide ranging from acute conditions such as diabetic ketoacidosis, adrenal crisis and electrolyte abnormalities to chronic disorders such as pituitary, thyroid, lipid and adrenal disorders.

The UTMB inpatient care includes seven contiguously arranged hospitals. The patient population is diverse in age, population, national origin, the variability of presentation with acute and chronic medical conditions, and the need for primary and specialized consultative care.
