Medical Oncology

Division of Adult Hematology/Oncology

The University of Texas Medical Branch

The University of Texas Medical Branch is seeking a medical oncologist or hematologist oncologist with a strong background in clinical trials and translational research for appointment to a tenure track position at the assistant or associate professor level to lead our breast oncology effort in the Division of Hematology and Oncology.

We are seeking candidates with the vision and leadership abilities to build upon this clinical program, while strengthening ties to the Sealy Center for Cancer Cell Biology and the Department of Human Biological Chemistry and Genetics. The candidate will lead the Multidisciplinary Breast Oncology clinic, and be responsible for devising and implementing novel therapeutic regimens, as well as participating in NSABP, SWOG, RTOG, and industry-sponsored studies.

The Division of Hematology and Oncology consists of 7 hematologists and oncologists who provide a full range of services. The division is actively engaged in clinical research, and is expanding its efforts in translational and basic research. UTMB is the second largest regional provider of medical cancer care and the third largest overall provider of cancer care in the 15-county area, and UTMB compares very favorably against national cancer mortality benchmarks: 40 percent better for medical care and 12 percent better for surgical care. The division is also currently responsible for providing the hematologic and oncologic care for the Texas Department of Justice system. The division currently has an ACGME-approved medical oncology fellowship, and the clinician will be expected to provide guidance for the fellows and housestaff from the department of Internal Medicine.

The division currently has a 14-bed unit for hematology and medical oncology and a dedicated outpatient unit for both hematology and medical oncology.

Academic rank and compensation will be commensurate with experience. The Houston-Galveston area is diverse and family friendly, a major seaport and transportation hub with ready access to the Gulf of Mexico, forested areas of the eastern portion of the state, and the rolling hills of central Texas.

There is ample opportunity to combine the lifestyle of a smaller town, suburbia, or a major metropolitan area.  The University of Texas and the Medical Branch are equal opportunity employers. Qualified women and minority candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Nominations and applications should include a curriculum vitae and a brief letter summarizing the candidate’s background and prior experience which supports their qualifications for this position.

For further information, or to submit a nomination of application, please contact our main office at 409-772-1164.
