Thursday: Yamada featured at inaugural Powell Lecture
The Don W. Powell Lecture, established in honor of Dr. Powell by the Edward and Sally Futch Charitable Fund, presents Dr. Tadataka Yamada, president of the Global Health Program at The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Yamada will speak on "Perspectives on Global Health." Please join us on Thursday, May 10, in William C. Dr. Jim Guckian Returns to UTMB

James C. Guckian MD MACP has returned to part-time service in the UTMB Department of Internal Medicine as Special Advisor to the Chairman. Dr. Guckian was on the faculty at UTMB from 1967-1988, and held the position of Chairman ad Interim of the Department of Medicine in 1984-85. In September 1985, Dr. Guckian was appointed Vice President for Medical Professional Affairs and Medical Director of the newly created faculty group practice plan for UTMB.

In 1988, Dr. Guckian left UTMB to join the UT System Administration in Austin. He was appointed Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs in 1997 and as Acting Executive Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs for the UT System in 2001. He served in that position until 2003.

In 2003,  Dr. Guckian began work for UTMB in Austin to expand medical education and biomedical research in collaboration with UT Austin, UT Health Science Center-Houston, UT Health Science Center-San Antonio, Seton HealthCare Network, St. David’s HealthCare Partnership, and the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System. He retired in January 2007, but at the request of Dr. Randy Urban, Chair of Internal Medicine, he agreed to serve as Special Advisor to the chairman. We all welcome Jim and Linda back "home".
